FIABCI 2012

“There is function for everything, we just need to UNDERSTAND and learn to apply it” - Architect Saifuddin bin Ahmad

We have seen the world climate change through the course of time and the cause of this change is development itself. Then, came the green wagon; picking up ‘passengers’ who are in support of their cause; to bring the earth to its green and natural state.

But the question is how will we achieve it? Through what means will be able to be green? KBU had invited Architect Saifuddin bin Ahmad to give his insight about green efforts on FIABCI 2012.

Setting up the registration booth at 9am.
THE KBU IAD CLUB commitees awaiting for the FIABCI 2012 talk-comers.

An introductory of the talk by our KBU IAD Club 2011/2012 president.
It was a dine-in talk ; kinda like a cinema. But of course, we cleaned up afterwards!
Ar. Saifuddin bin Ahmad giving a talk about how forms when understood, can play an important role in this ecological design.

ANY BUILDING can be GREEN. But to be GREEN it is a process from A-Z” -Architect Saifuddin bin Ahmad

During the FIABCI 2012 talk, Ar. Saifuddin mentioned that there are 2 forms of ENEGERY EFFICIENCY (EE), passive and active. But before we go further in the topic, first and foremost what does energy efficiency mean?

To be energy efficient simply means to use less energy consumption.
So WHY should a building be energy efficient?

Ultimately, this act is COST EFFECTIVE where substantially in a long run; it saves us the money when it comes to paying the electrical and water bills.
Well, it is definitely environmentally FRIENDLY because we cut down the use of natural resources; thus preserving what’s about to be lost.

So what is PASSIVE EE?
Passive EE comes from the building itself, its design, spatial and construction (such as material application, spatial planning and in cooperation with existing natural elements) and Active EE is from the systems and machinery that is used in the building.

A little mind map on what was preached upon at the talk about green efforts.
