SEQUENCE 2025: FROM SPARK TO SPECTACLE

From 26 to 28 September 2025, First City University College celebrated the 23rd anniversary of its Sequence Showcase with the theme “Spark to Spectacle.”

Held at The School, Jaya One, the showcase presented the works of 55 graduating students from six design programmes, including interior architecture, furniture design, graphic design and fashion marketing. The event was officiated by Adjunct Professor IDr Joe Chan Wan Hoe, Deputy President of the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers.

A total of 16 awards were presented during the showcase, including 6 Best Showcase Awards across programmes and 10 special awards recognizing perseverance, creativity, leadership, collaboration, and impact.

SEQUENCE 2025: 30 MAY 2025 TO 1 JUNE 2025

On 30th May 2025, Sunway Nexis hosted SEQUENCE 2025, marking the 23rd edition of First City University College's graduation showcase organized by the Faculty of Design & Built Environment. This annual event celebrated the creativity and innovation of graduating students across various disciplines, including Graphic Design, Interior Architecture & Design, Furniture & Product Design, and Fashion Marketing.

SEQUENCE 2025 transcends a mere exhibition; it embodies First City University College's dedication to fostering industry partnerships and providing students with practical experiences. The impressive projects on display garnered the attention of industry experts, highlighting the students as promising professionals poised to influence their fields. Building upon its history of cultivating employable graduates, this event serves as a vital link between academic learning and professional opportunities.

GRADUATION SHOWCASE SEPTEMBER 2024

First City University College's Faculty of Design & Built Environment proudly presents its annual graduation exhibition, Sequence September 2024, celebrating the creative achievements of its design students.

The event started with the MCs announcing this year’s theme, "Connect to Elevate," highlights the collaborative spirit of students and their ability to break boundaries through design. The exhibition features projects from students in the Master of Design Management, Bachelor of (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design, Bachelor of (Hons) Graphic Design, Bachelor of (Hons) Furniture and Product Design, as well as Diplomas in Interior Design and Graphic Design.

This was followed by Jiun Xue, the Chairperson for Sequence September 2024 committee who thanked all her coursemates and team members for support.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Saw Sor Heoh in her speech alter emphasized the significance of design in society, stating, “In a world where visuals are paramount, design plays a crucial role in communicating ideas and fostering understanding. It uniquely evokes emotions and promotes deeper connections. “The projects on display today demonstrate that design not only creates visually appealing objects but also serves as a powerful medium for communication, problem-solving, and influencing how we interact with the world.”

The Guest of Honour, Dato Soo Kai Chee, Treasurer of the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Furniture Association (KSFA), emphasized the success of the collaboration with First City University College. He pointed out that the Association played a vital role by offering industry support and highlight on the the quality of the graduates.

The event continued with exhibition of the Sustainable Fashion Show, where students from the Bachelor (Hons) Fashion Marketing program showcased eco-friendly designs made from recycled and natural materials. The fashion show was the collaboration between the university and the World Wide Fund (WWF), reinforcing a strong commitment to sustainable practices in the design industry. 

The September 2024 Sequence Exhibition, now in its 22nd edition, is supported by major sponsors including 1 Utama Shopping Centre, MAX WORLD, SQFT Space Design Management, Jupiter I Design Sdn Bhd, The Makeover Guys Sdn Bhd, SQUAREONE, and TAK Products & Services Sdn. Bhd.

FINAL REVIEW: PERSPECTIVES FROM LEADING PROFESSIONALS

The programme team recently organised the BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design Final Design Review, held on 8 May and 9 May 2024. The purpose of the event was to foster collaboration between First City University College and industries to ensure that students' work quality meets the dynamic needs of the industrial landscape.

To provide valuable feedback and insights, panel of external assessors were invited, comprising industry experts such as Soo Mei Ling from Urban Catalyst Sdn Bhd, Ong Kian Kiat, Design Director at Bloom Design Sdn Bhd, Mr Idzwan Sawal from Studio MVH, Mr Azani Fahzan from Innovative Space Dimension, Ms Nurashikin Moktar from ACID Sdn Bhd, Ms Ainil Suhaimi from M.Creationz Sdn Bhd, Aida Anis from Ideaspace (M) Services, Ms Nurdiayana Zainudin from Meridian Design Concept, Ms Hamiza Parman from JDM Design and Built and Ts. Mohd Azrol Bin Baharudin, a respected lecturer from the School of Architecture & Interior Architecture at UiTM, among others.

One of the external assessors, Idzwan Sawal from Studio MVH noted “The students’ presentation were excellently crafted, but what truly set it apart was their delivery. Their ability to convey the project's essence through storytelling was exceptional. The animations added a visually engaging layer, but the highlight was undoubtedly the meticulous attention to detail in the dubbing voiceovers, which made complex concepts crystal clear. Overall, their presentations were not just informative but also captivating”

By honing necessary skills and actively engaging with industry partners, First City University College is equipping its students with the tools they need to succeed in the competitive landscape of the industry. With continued collaboration from industry experts, these aspiring interior architects and designers continue to embark on their professional journeys.
