FIABCI is again in KBU having a Brown Paper Bag Seminar after one year.
For your information, FIABCI (Federation Internationale des Administrateurs de Bien-Conselis Immobiliers) is the French acronym for the “International Real Estate Federation” which as an organisation links all its members of real estate professional worldwide, representing every discipline in the industry which also seeks to provide a window into a world of excellence in real estate, by sharing the efforts and successes of its worldwide membership to improve the quality of the environment and higher standards in real estate for Malaysians to enjoy.
FIABCI Malaysia in its endeavour to encourage young leaders in the industry has taken its objectives to the undergraduates in universities. It has established a series of lunch seminars known as “Brown Paper Bag Seminar” where leading property players speak on all aspect of the real estate industry.
Today, all students were required to wear green for the purpose of matching the talk! However, for committees, they were required to wear the red KBUIAD club t-shirt. So you could see flowers among the plants!
During noon time, students registered outside the Theatre 1 in Level 7 to get their lunch. Guess what it’s Mc Donald’s!
I think because we are getting Mc Value lunch from 12-3 pm and it comes with brown paper bag too =) But imagine you have to distribute 250 sets in one hour… =.=|||
After having the Mc Chicken set meal, the seminar started with the welcoming speech by KBU representative and following by Mr. Ho Chin Soon which is the Organising Chairman of FIABCI Malaysia Brown Paper Bag Seminar.
Finally it’s our speaker Mr. John GN Bulcock, the Director of Eco-Homes (M) Sdn Bhd turn’s to give his talk. He started of the talk immediately with the topic today Shades of Green whereby this title is apt as encouraging clients, who generally do not request or initially know the benefits of ‘sustainable buildings’, result in widely varying degrees of passive & active measures we are able to design, as we ‘gently’ persuade & encourage an adaptation of lifestyle.
Then he proceeded to “What is sustainable building?” I believe it is a popular topic to discuss nowadays. It serves as platform for us to kick start and also to change the mindset of how to rescuing the earth on how psychological well being stimulates people, how physical well being affects the comfort of people and how it reduces the impact on nature.
He further explained to the approach the method of passive and active design elements to create a green building design. He added that Malaysian climate is very generous that has enough light, solar energy and rainfall to cater for all needs. Every house in Malaysia
Eco-House: Architecture is always site specific. For example each building is designed for its site topography and site climate.
A very engaging talk indeed.
Mr. John provided case studies such as House-in-the-Hill-house 2 in Phuket, Thailand on how sustainable features such as solar PV systems, rainwater harvesting combine with passive environmental design to create a self-sustainable house. Bamboo house, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with low-energy naturally ventilated house encourages intimate with Nature which constructed by off-form fairface concrete.
Novo Nordisk, A research Facility, Technology Park Malaysia on how it uses natural slope, natural light, glass wall-fusion of building and landscape to heighten awareness to the natural gradient of the landscape and to create a stable internal environment which reduces energy consumption.
The speech was very useful for those who are doing their dissertation. However, sustainable building is a very good and broad topic to discuss. We are glad to have Mr. John to give us a speech today.
FIABCI continues to educate and lift real estate standards. It contributes towards nation building and development thereby enhancing the quality of life of all Malaysians.
