Orientation June 2024 @ Coffee and Art

This time, the Faculty of Design and Built Environment (FDBE) gathered at the Heritage Building for orientation involving all FDBE new intakes, current students and all programme coordinators on 5 June 2024. The orientation aimed to foster collaboration and the exchange of ideas among student teams, while also cultivating creativity and practical problem-solving skills through the creation of art installations.

As part of a collaboration project with the COFFEE and ART Festival at Fahrenheit 88, FDBE students were tasked with creating a wall of paper cup art. Participants were required to create artwork in black and white on provided paper cups. The installation had to align with the festival's theme, encouraging students to interpret it creatively and engage in reflective design. Students were organised into groups, each led by a senior student to oversee the project's development.

This orientation project was an exciting opportunity to kick-start the semester with creativity and teamwork. By working together on this art installation, students not only built beautiful pieces of art but also forged strong connections with their peers. Embracing the challenge allowed them to unleash their creativity and, most importantly, enjoy the process.

A total of approximately 300 artwork was collected and exhibited at Fahrenheit 88, KL from 10 to 23 June 2024.

BIAD Sept 2023 Orientation Activity - Extravagant Parade

To welcome back our BIAD degree students, the faculty members of the Faculty of Design and Built Environment (FDBE) gathered to organize activities for the orientation week and also held a competition known as the Extravagant Parade Competition. This orientation creative competition aims to train students to generate creative ideas for parade costume designs and flags with the FCUC theme, representing FCUC using recycled materials. Nevertheless, this activity aims to enhance the engagement between seniors, juniors, and lecturers so that students have a better understanding of the university culture and traditions. Besides training them on their creativity and innovation, this orientation activity also aims to help them get to know and interact with the lecturers of the faculty, enhance their engagement and interaction, and prepare them well for the upcoming semester.

The Extravagant Parade competition is held on September 15, 2023 (Friday), the 5th day of orientation week in SSD, Level G, South Building of FCUC. There are two brilliant groups; a total of 16 students participated in the competition. Students who participate exhibit their creativity and knowledge, putting them into designing the costumes, flags, banners with the FCUC theme, and even the movement and march of the 5-minute parade. The costume designed by students is not only aesthetic pleasing but also has a meaningful FCUC theme and showcases the variety of usage of recycled materials and eco-friendly products, transforming the parade into a fascinating and unforgettable scenery.

Getting together in 2023

What a great way to begin the semester!

Students from the BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design and BA (Hons) Furniture & Product Design programme joined together for a warm up project to signify the commencement of the new semester.

The students, both the seniors and the recent new joiners from the Feb Intake, had much fun participating in the programme titled “Vertical Projects”. Among the main aims of the programme were to foster good rapport and teamwork among the seniors and juniors, and at the same time to hone their leadership skills.

The students were required to work collaboratively in groups to build a vertical structure from the given materials. The structure must be built within the allotted space and time, and with no limitation on height. The most creative and durable structures were adjudged as winners.

It was an afternoon of fun when the students find enjoyment interacting and engaging with one another to complete the given tasks.

Congratulations to the following student groups for coming up with the most creative and pragmatic structures and for demonstrating the best teamwork in the project.

Crazy Week 2017

Orientation week 2016

Welcome back all FCUC design students! 

In conjunction with this year's September degree intake, FCUC's design school has put together a one week long orientation warm up project that allowed both IAD and FPD students from year 1,2 & 3 to join forces and create something amazing.

This year's brief: designing a bench for 2, completely out of recycled materials. Impossible you say? we proved you wrong! Here are some of the winning designs.

“A DESIGNER’S RUNAWAY”

Year 1 January 2012 Orientation

The Year 1 January 2012 (BA(H) Interior Architecture & Design) started 3 January 2012 with a joint orientation with students from Graphic Design, new students from Foundation Art & Design and Diploma Interior Design and Diploma Interactive Design. This year's theme "Malaysiana" was most probably inspired from our 1 Malaysia concept!!!

For students in year 1, we were to design a fashion runaway called "Designer's Runaway". Tips given:  design a garment inspired by Malaysiana’s Fashion & style: Identify Malaysia distinctive identity and culture. As returning students from Foundation, we had no problem in groupwork. Only 1 day for brainstorming and research:  Batik, Songket, wau, Sirih Pinang, Silat, Congkak, Wayang Kulit, Kuda Kepang, Kebaya Nyonya, minang kabau. The showed was on Saturday, 7 January 2012.

The most happening was Saturday. All started in the late evening, praying hard it did not rain.
